ChessMax, and coach Mikhail, have been great instructors, providing solid growth as well as a constructive, structured, and nurturing framework for that growth.
My 5,5 old twins have been enjoying chess for almost 2 years at Chess Max Greenwich. Coach Eric is patient with the little ones. The admin office is helpful and flexible with make up classes etc. I will continue as long as the kids remain interested & engaged. I would be great if they had some digital/age-appropriate content to practice at home.
My son has been studying here for almost two years and has learned so much from Coach Arrik. They host tournaments every other Sunday, and the kids absolutely love participating! It’s a great environment with caring coaches and staff, plus a convenient location. Highly recommended!

Chess Max of Greenwich teaches chess to children from age 3 through 16. The academy says it was founded by Grandmaster Maxim Dlugy. New families can begin with a skill assessment that the business describes as free.
The academy offers two formats: private coaching and group classes sorted by level. Its website names seven class levels. They run from a Masters class for strong young players down to a Chess For Tots program for ages 3 to 5, and students move up once they show they have mastered the current material.
Group classes carry weekly homework. Smart boards and Chessbase are among the teaching tools the academy lists. It also reports weekend tournaments for all ages and levels, plus chess camps in summer and over school holidays with daily grandmaster instruction.
The Greenwich site is one of four academy locations. The other three are in New York City, on the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side. The academy runs online classes as well.
The doors open at 11 am on weekdays and at 9 am on weekends, and every day closes at 7 pm. The academy asks families to call before registering for a full-year option. Greenwich averages 51.2 degrees F, with a mean high of 60.9 and a mean low of 41.5, per NOAA normals for 1991 to 2020. Over that period the town logs 5764 heating degree days and 763 cooling degree days a year.
The academy holds a 5.0 rating from 28 reviews. Parents most often mention patient, engaging coaches and children who look forward to class. Several also note small class sizes, the regular tournaments and an office that is flexible about make-up classes.
On the critical side, one parent wished for age-appropriate digital material for practice at home. Another said an older child found mostly younger students in the room.
The academy says its founder holds the grandmaster title, and it states that its tournaments are rated by the U.S. Chess Federation.
For a child aged 3 to 16 who needs group classes by level or private coaching in Greenwich, this academy offers a free assessment and rated weekend tournaments.
