Amazing place to train. I had the honor of learning from Prof Veltman. A warm welcome with a nice group of students ranging in experience, and competitive but friendly rolls. Prof Veltman is a really special coach, both in his technique but also his warmth and care for everyone. I'll be back next time I'm in Guelph!
Both my daughter and I have had a great time training here. We are both new to BJJ / martial arts. Can’t say enough good about Professor Rob and the other instructors (and Mary!). The atmosphere at the gym is friendly and encouraging. The kids classes are dynamic and fun, and it’s clear that the kids are having a blast. My daughter is always eager for class even when she has had a busy day, which to me is the biggest indicator that they are doing something right here. The adult classes are a great workout, and the instructors are very supportive and friendly.
Absolutely the best . Our sons conference has grown tremendously. All the coaches and professors are great with the kids

Royal City Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Guelph is led by Professor Rob Veltman, whom the school describes as a 5th-degree black belt and a pioneer of the sport in Canada. Its website says Veltman has spent more than 40 years in the grappling arts. That path began with wrestling at age 8 and later ran through Judo.
The school names separate programs by age. Adults, teens and preschoolers each get their own track, with a kids program alongside them. For the youngest students, the school says the focus is coordination and confidence. For adults, it names fitness and practical self-defense as the goals.
The school also lists women's-only sessions. It says its classes take students at every experience level, from first-timers to those who already train. New students can start with a trial class, the school states.
Classes run in the afternoons and evenings, from as early as 12:30 PM to as late as 8:30 PM, with a short one-hour window on Sunday. Guelph averages 7.0°C over the year, with a mean high of 12.1°C and a mean low of 1.9°C, per Environment Canada normals for 1981-2010.

Several parents say their children have grown in confidence, and two reviewers point to a clean, well-run space. Adult students describe the classes as a solid workout with friendly training partners.
Professor Veltman holds a 5th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a Shodan in Kodokan Judo, and the school reports he was the first person to earn a black belt under Syl and Dan Moroney.
